Interior Redesign Campaign

We're redesigning our Reading Room at the Main Branch in Iron Mountain, and our community has shown strong support for this project: we have met our $20,000 goal to earn a matching grant from the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC)!
We think you'll love our ideas for the new design, which are based on your feedback: visit www.patronicity.com/dclredesign to see our ideas for the final plan, and join our Facebook Group to keep up with further updates!

All images, created by Blomquist Architects, represent updates we are interested in including in the project.
Final design, color, and furniture choices will be planned after this campaign ends.

You can call the library, visit us, or email dcl@dcl-lib.org with your questions. Our Library Director, Megan Buck,
is also happy to discuss this project's goals and purpose with you, as well as hear your ideas for future library services.
Stop by a Directed Discussions session to chat with her, or make an appointment to connect one-on-one!

What is the timeline for this campaign?

Donations were accepted through December 31. Donations were accepted online through our Patronicity campaign website. Donations can also be made in person at the library at any time, and these were added to our campaign tracking to help us earn this grant.

How will this project be funded?

The Dickinson County Library has a history of thoughtful and prudent Library Boards which has allowed us to maintain and improve our facilities without asking the voters for additional funds.  This project provided a unique opportunity for our supporters to help us earn a grant from the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC).  By reaching our $20,000 donation goal through the Patronicity campaign, MEDC will award us an additional $20,000 in grant funding to supplement the funds the Library has budgeted for this project. This additional funding will expand our budget by 20%, and allow us to make final design plans with all of our desired updates included.
As of December 22, we reached our $20,000 goal, thanks to an outpouring of support from our community! Donations were still be accepted through December 31 to further enhance our project. THANK YOU to everyone who shared and contributed to this campaign!

Why are we redesigning the Reading Room?

It's our mission to enhance community life by responding to the needs of all our patrons. Paramount to the library is empowering our community, stimulating an interest in reading, cultivating a love of lifelong learning, and providing welcoming spaces where patrons can try new things to encourage everyone to achieve their personal, educational, and professional goals. The Library is excited to redesign our Reading Room to allow us to fulfill our mission and provide the community with a mix of traditional and modern library spaces.

Over the last few years we have heard your concerns about using our building, and we have tried to address them in this project. At the top of the list was better lighting for reading and browsing the collection. We have also heard your interest in having more defined spaces, greater noise control, simplified browsing, and enhanced seating options. The addition of another meeting room, perfect for a small group or useful as individual study space, was also very important. Providing excellent and responsive customer service is a top priority. This redesign will help us maintain that priority by relocating equipment which may require assistance closer to the front desk. A new service desk within the Reading Room will make it much easier to identify staff members available to assist you in finding the information you need.

How will donors be recognized?

Donors' names are included on a special Thank You page of our website. We will also display the names of all donors who wish to be recognized during the construction phase of the redesign and during an Open House to reveal the completed project. Our Patronicity project page has varying levels of rewards for people who donate certain amounts. For Bookcase ($500), Genre ($1000), Collection ($3500) and Library ($7000) donors, the donation will be recognized with a plaque in our redesigned space.

Thank you for supporting us with your donations, by sharing this campaign via social media and word-of-mouth,
and for supporting the Dickinson County Library through the use of our services.
The Dickinson County Library is proud to serve our community!
